BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) – A judge on Monday set bond at $3 million for a sex offender who escaped from Denver police headquarters and is suspected of a new crime in Boulder.

Eugene Martinez is accused of sexually assaulting two women in Boulder County after breaking into their home. Boulder police were able to track him down because he had a cellphone they say he allegedly took from one of the victims.

The crime took place 10 days after Martinez ran out of the Denver Police Department Administration Building in downtown Denver with handcuffs on. That Oct. 9 incident shortly after Martinez was arrested on charges of failing to register as a sex offender.

The women involved in the Boulder case told CBS4 they didn’t want to do interviews on camera, but they said they are now working to get their lives back in order.

Martinez appeared before a judge on Monday afternoon in Boulder County Court and the judge said he considered Martinez a “flight risk,” a danger to the community and someone with a long history of offenses. He is currently being held in the Boulder County Jail.

Martinez is also being investigated as a possible suspect in another sex assault last week in the Pueblo area.
